SIXTH GRADE
In each marking period of Sixth grade, your child will study a different foreign language: French, German, Spanish, and Japanese. All students will then select a language for full-time study for subsequent years. Your child will be expected to:
All students in the Seventh grade study French, German,
Japanese, or Spanish for a full year. Emphasis is given to the development
of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in the target language,
to organizational and study skills, and to the acquistion of cultural knowledge.
Our proficiency-oriented program emphasizes the development
of practical skills in the foreign language being studied.
Students will continue to pursue the study of the
same foreign language in Eighth Grade.
EIGHTH GRADE
Students in the Eighth grade Foreign Language Program
continue to study French, German, Japanese, or Spanish for the full year.
Continued emphasis is given to the development of listening and speaking
skills and cultural knowledge. Increased emphasis is placed on the
development of grammar skills.
As a result of their experiences in eighth grade
foreign language, the students may continue to pursue that language for
an additional four year sequence at the high school level. The study
of Latin is also introduced at the high school level.
