Activity Challenge Live It Nutritional Program
Presidential Challenge Spark People
“Live It” Program is an extension of the step with it (Fit It In) Program done last year. It is a fitness program designed to help increase the awareness and importance of daily physical activity as part of a healthy lifestyle. We are planning to get 500 pedometers to continue this program this year. Remember 10,000 steps are recommended per day for students and slightly less steps for adults if you are using this type of measurement. Please use this device properly. The Stepometer is designed to track your steps, and shaking it may cause damage to the Stepometer
Our health and physical education staff invites you and your family to check out the Presidential Challenge website to help you and your family improve your overall health and wellness. With this program you log on the computer all of the activity that you do in a days time. This is converted into points. When you earn enough points you are eligible for bronze, silver or gold medals. Check out this web site and look under presidential challenge at http://www.presidentschallenge.org/the_challenge/presidential_champions.aspx. Please let us know if you have any questions or problems with this website.
. In the cafeteria there is a “Fit It In” nutritional bulletin board display to encourage students and staff to make healthy choices when eating. This is the same display as last year with a few new posters. In conjunction with our research project for this school year (Looking into how a nutritious breakfast correlates with academic success) our staff also recommends you check out the website “Spark People” http://sparkpeople.com/resource/main.asp to help you with your nutritional and activity goals. This is a free site. The program consists of Food Tracker and personalized meal plans, customized fitness plan, and Spark Points motivation program. Support from their experts and other helpful information are also found at this site. Nutrition is covered in health class.
We are asking all students to have personal goals relating to their fitness and nutrition. This will be done with Mr. Cline and Mrs. Moore for the seventh and eighth grades. Mr. White will do this program with Mrs. Moore for the 6th grade this school year. All parents will receive a copy of the goals your son or daughter filled out in class. Parents or guardians must sign this so that our staff knows you have seen all of your son or daughters goals for the school year.
Our Health and Physical Education Staff are here to help in whatever it takes to help you achieve your goals for this school year. Good Luck…Go For It!!!
